Much of the biomass projects that
Internat Energy Solutions has dealt with include the use of pelleted
wood. They are usually produced as a byproduct of saw-milling and other
wood transformation activities. The pellets are extremely dense and can be
produced with a low humidity content (below 10%) that allows them to be burned
with a very high combustion efficiency. Further, their regular geometry and
small size allow automatic feeding with very fine calibration. They can be fed
to a burner by auger feeding or by pneumatic conveying. Although the
burning of wood is releasing carbon in the atmosphere, this carbon dioxide is
largely balanced by the carbon dioxide captured in its own growth. In
effect it is carbon neutral in its life-cycle as opposed to fossil fuels that
is the release of carbon stored millions of years ago.
Projects of biomass are normally
supplementary heating sources of another primary space heater. However,
in passive house design biomass can be the sole source of space heating.

design.
